Aspergers Syndrome Camps

Numerous day camps and overnight camps have help for kids with Asperger's Syndrome. Counselors and other staff are trained in understanding this autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Staff and programs are designed with Asperger's kids in mind and the social and personal impairments related to the Syndrome are well understood by everyone involved.

Asperger’s camps teach affected youngsters with Asperger Syndrome to interact with peers and develop coping methods and tools. Camps focus on improving social interaction, independence, and academic self-motivation. An ideal camp will offer both indoor and outdoor activities for children in small groups. Classroom training, learning trips and scientific exploration also form part of the agenda at these camps.

Consult with each Asperger's Camp listed below to learn about specific programs and activities they use in their approach.

Asperger's Camps typical programs and focuses
In a typical Apserger's kids' camp, students are trained in independent living skills and group dynamics. Some popular courses and approaches include Adaptive Physical Education, Art Therapy, Group Therapy, Movement and Dance, and Literacy Development. All of the activities at such camps are designed to stimulate a child's awareness, interest in the environment and in social relationships.

The camp can also act as a summer school for these children. They can get a head start studying subjects that they will focus on during the next academic year. The instructors are aware of each camper's needs and goals. Counselors give children the assistance they may need in making friends, learning new skills and getting along in a group scenario. Asperger’s camps have specialists who work with campers and give them the required training and therapy. Counselors give routine support and guidance formally and informally through sessions and hands on supervision. Additional support and consultation maybe offered by an occupational therapist and speech therapist.
