Teaching children to find their place in God's kingdom
Christian schools in Canada have a history dating back several generations. Aside from teaching children basic Biblical beliefs and providing them with a moral grounding, Christian schools have acquired a reputation among some people for providing richer curricula taught by dedicated, caring educators. On average, students from Christian schools outperform students from public schools on standardized tests and college entrance exams.
That's not the reason you would send your kids to Christian school, though. Of course, it is an interesting byproduct and benefit of a Christian education and something to think about as you consider private school alternatives.
Why send kids to a Christian school?
For many Christian parents, sending their children to a Christian school means sending them to a school where the community shares their values. This is probably the number one reason for and benefit of sending your child to a Christian school.
Many parents also feel that their children are safer in a Christian school. There is likely to be no tolerance for violence or verbal abuse and there is likely to be far less sexual impropriety or immorality. In general, their classmates are more likely to come from 'strong' homes.
The curriculum in different Christian schools can vary wildly. For example, some Christian schools will teach a Creationist viewpoint of origins; others might teach children about dinosaurs and Darwin while emphasizing the rule of God. Be sure you fully understand the subtleties in the teaching philosophy of the different Christian schools you are considering and investigating.
