Disability Camps

Find camps for kids with disabilities here! Children with physical disabilities require special consideration and camps listed here have counselors with special training, facilities specially designed and activities tailored for physically disabled kids.

Camps for disabled kids may use customized equipment for children with physical disabilities. The specific types of disabilities will often dictate the type of camp equipment.

As the children at disability camps are separated from their parents for the first time, many begin to take on challenges that build their sense of independence. Families can enjoy peace of mind that their family member is at a disability camp with trained, dedicated volunteers ready to help participants have a fruitful and enjoyable camping experience. Campers at disability camps are encouraged to try out new experiences to gain confidence, improve coordination, enhance communication and grow personally.

Disability Camps provide summer recreation for children with various types of disabilities. Camps are conducted for a variety of disabilities that may include cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, spina bifida, brain injury, autism, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, quadriplegia, paraplegia, arthritis, hearing and/or visual impairments, Down's syndrome, schizophrenia, heart problems, strokes, attention deficit disorders, fetal alcohol syndrome, diabetes and Alzheimer’s disorder. Some camps are especially for children with learning disabilities like dyslexia. There are also many disability camps covering only a specific type of disability. (You can look under Other Special Needs, above, to find camps specializing in certain types of disorders.)
