Karate Camps

Karate camps are an ideal way to spend part of summer vacation. These camps are fun-filled, skill-building camps for kids aged 5-13. No previous training is required though there may be camps that are conducted based on the skill level of the child. As children advance in skill level, they earn different colored belts, from the white and yellow belts to the black belt. Kids at karate camps are matched up with others of approximately equal skill level. Also, this activity has been shown to be beneficial for kids with autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorders. Children between the ages of 9 and 12 who are still developing mental and physical skills can gain a lot from karate camps.

Each day at a karate camp starts with a group meeting to talk about the activities of the day and the skills the kids will be working on. Karate camps also include physical fitness training as a necessary aspect of the daily routine. Kids are taught a variety of skills, from board breaking to sparring to intense self-defense, as well as a mix of other types of martial arts that might include judo, tai chi and others.

Children move every part of their bodies when they practice karate, getting a full-body workout and becoming more flexible and fit in due course. They get a lot of benefit from these camps aside from physical activity. Knowing how to defend him or herself will give a child a chance to survive or escape an attack, of course, but it offers other practical benefits such as improved health and fitness.

Common karate injuries will include bruises and scrapes and karate camps take care of this with first aid and other measures. It is advisable to visit the camp to ensure that children are getting correct treatment and training.

Other camp activities such as swimming, lunch, games, fitness training and field trips may or may not be included, depending on the depth of focus of the camp.

Karate camps teach children the same skills that have been practiced for thousands of years. The discipline has a philosophy of respect, courtesy and a positive attitude that inspires children to become more positive, respectful and courteous. Many students who take up the sport of karate look forward to advancing through the belt colors. Karate also serves as an alternative way to stay fit for children who are not interested in team sports or other forms of exercise. Children who attend karate camps have shown improved self-esteem and better self-confidence too.
