A Washington private school is one of three alternatives to public school (the others being home schooling or an education centre). Private schools in Washington have specific requirements covering operation and student enrollment; to operate, the private school must be approved by the state of Washington. According to the office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction, approval of any private school "is granted by the State Board of Education upon completion of the application for approval and recommendation by the Assistant Superintendent, Student Support and Operations."
