Find a list of schools

Ontario's private schools for students with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) offer exceptional opportunities and support for children with this disorder. In these schools, teachers and education aids have wide-ranging training in helping students with this disorder. Many of the province's private schools are specially prepared with support systems to cater to individual learning disabilities like ADHD.

Ontario has a plethora schools for students with ADHD. This province is home to many different types of ADHD schools, including traditional, special needs focused, alternative, sports, Montessori, gifted schools, faith-based, arts and troubled teens private schools.

While private school tuition may seem daunting, there are multiple ways in which you can pay for it (see 18 Tips for Paying for Private School in Ontario). For example, you may qualify for a medical tax break if you send your child to a special needs school.

When you apply to an ADHD private school in Ontario, you generally will need to fill out an application and sit through an in-person interview. During the application process, you must provide as much detail as you possibly can to allow the school determine if they can best help your child and enhance his or her school experience. In addition, getting into private school is less important than finding the right match. Both you and the school need to know whether it is a good fit.

ADHD Symptoms

ADHD Canada notes plenty of ADHD signs, including, but not exclusive to:

  • "getting into everything"
  • continuous daydreaming
  • drifting from thing to thing (e.g., toy to toy)
  • copious activity
  • trouble sleeping
  • accident-prone
  • lack of typical fears
  • difficulty taking turns or waiting for a request to be completed
  • trouble being still

Ourkids.net also provides a more comprehensive list of ADHD symptoms.

ADHD Canada also points out that "a collection of evidence and the elimination of other possible causes for the symptoms" comprise the diagnosis of ADHD. "No special psychological or laboratory test diagnoses this disorder."

Advantages of Ontario Private Schools for Students With ADHD

  • Your location is irrelevant. Indeed, you can enroll your child in any area you want and can therefore make the best education choice for your child.
  • A private school will very carefully inspect your son's or daughter's application and interview before accepting him or her. This scrutiny provides the school with the chance to decide whether it can accommodate your child with ADHD. Public schools usually do not have such robust application and interview processes.
  • Ontario private schools that cater to ADHD students have small class sizes and are well-controlled settings. As a result, they deal with each student's strengths and weaknesses and can, hence, teach according to his or her needs. In short, instructors connect more with each student. This individualistic approach is perfect for ADHD students, as the disorder presents itself uniquely in each of its patients.
  • In Ontario, the majority of private schools offer extra help outside of class. Such attention is crucial for children with ADHD, as they can struggle academically.

Below, you will find ADHD schools from across the province of Ontario.
