Independent school educators, principals and school administrators      Return to newsletter

Our Kids Publications is launching a private school blog, and we invite you to be a part of the team while reaching a broad audience of Canadian parents and others interested in private education.

The blog is intended to be a resource for families and educators, as well as a forum for information on the private school experience.

We welcome your ideas of what to write about, but we are also happy to provide story ideas.

Topics for consideration:

  • Provide advice for the school selection process, insight into school life in and out of the classroom
  • Share your views and offer your expertise with arts, sports, special needs or technology
  • Inform readers about the most current information on an educational philosophy, Montessori, Waldorf...
  • Offer advice on early childhood education, boarding schools or preparing for University

What's involved in being an Ourkids.net blogger?

We are looking for people who can contribute regularly, at least 1-2 times per month, with each post being a minimum of 250 words. We are flexible however; contributions can be heavy on photos or feature a video, or go beyond 250 words if you have more to say. Lists are also a good way to present information, such as a list of things students absolutely should (or should not!) bring with them to school.

The blog uses WordPress, the most popular blogging software available - and famously easy-to-use. Once we give you a login, you'll find the text input window very simple. We have several administrators and editors who will be able to help you and will even edit your post, so you don't have to worry about the little details associated with publishing your work.

In exchange for your efforts, you will receive recognition on the blog (including an author page with a bio), and we may also include recognition in the magazine. This is a great opportunity to gain exposure for yourself and your school and to have your writing read by a diverse audience of people in the private education community (prospective parents, current parents, educators, administrators, parents, etc).

Even if you do not feel comfortable posting or writing, we invite you to comment on posts that are relevant to you or your school.

The blog can be found at http://www.ourkids.net/blog. We might still be finalizing the design or layout over the next few weeks - but rest assured, this will be the quality of product you've come to expect from Our Kids Publications. We're sure that you will want to stay tuned, read - and hopefully, contribute!
