This is the third update from the Avenue Road Arts School, as they prepare a musical theatre revue show based on the hit television series Glee. See their first two entries, A "Glee-ful" ARAS Revue and ARAS Today, Broadway Tomorrow.

We are now just one week away from our "one night only" show! Yikes! The reality is setting in for all of our students, and for myself and my music director too! This is "big push time" so we have had to extend some of our rehearsals to get everything done. Adding choreography to already difficult vocal arrangements is always a challenge but we're making some headway. Plus there are all the things outside of the actual cast that have to get done: theatre coordination, costumes and props, arranging our backdrop with our visual artist, sound requirements and mics, and the list goes on! When a show is only one night, it is still as much work (if not more) as a run of several shows as all the same work has to be done. We just do not have the luxury of a "do-over"..it's a one-shot deal! As we get closer, we really start to see the students who stand out in terms of taking on responsibility and who are professional enough to focus when it is needed. Dedication also becomes very clear. Last rehearsal our student Kayley landed at the airport from Florida in the late afternoon but made her parents rush her straight to rehearsal, impressive, and so needed!! Each cast member in an ensemble piece is intensely valuable and even one absence sets us back. We're hoping to avoid any bad cold and flu bugs (or to get them NOW before the final week of rehearsals) so we can power through these last few important rehearsals. Wish us luck as we enter the final phase!

Avenue Road Arts School's performance is taking place next Tuesday, December 14 at 7:30 pm at the George Ignatieff Theatre in Toronto, Ontario. Break a leg!
