Field Trips…

One of the other aspects about The Dragon Academy are the relatively unusual field trips we do. The school calls its philosophy museum-based learning, which basically means we go to museums and other cultural institutions a lot. I remember once hearing that originally the school was going to be based in a museum but for a variety of reasons, it didn’t work out. Still, nonetheless, we go out of the school a lot.

We went to see The Reader which was a very good movie. Later on I was talking to someone who had just seen the movie and I said I had seen it with my school. I was greeted with a moment of shocked silence.

Noh Theatre

One of the first trips of the year was to see The Noh Theatre at The Japanese Cultural Centre. I was one of very few who sat through the whole thing.

The Class

We also saw The Class which was REALLY good. Even if we watched it right after an hour and a half of french class.

Spring Awakening

One of our bigger trips of the year was going to see Spring Awakening. It was a really good show.

Scorched at the Tarragon

We also saw the play Scorched at the Tarragon which was amazing.

The last field trip we did was to Point Pelee where just around four of us ended up going to the actual point while most of the school played frisbee.

Oh, and we went to the ROM a lot for art. (we are a block away after all.)

That’s pretty much all I can remember from this year. I hope this gave you a taste for the Dragon field trips.

What do you get out of these field trips? Do the teachers have you do assignments/work at or after visiting a museum or seeing a movie?

  2. Gabe says:

I would say we learn a lot by being exposed to things (like opera and films and museums) that we would normally not see. We also do a lot of field trips more connected to classes then the ones mentioned here like trips to museums related to classes we are doing and trips to the reference libraries for research.
