Holy Name of Mary College School is an all-girls traditional school that provides a university preparatory program from grades 5 to 12. The school not only prepares students for University with an adapted curriculum, but teaches girls to become compassionate, responsible and confidant young women. Holy Name of Mary College School’s values are centered around the Catholic Faith; principles which help students become valuable members of society in terms of global and local outreach and awareness. If you or your daughter is looking for a school that will challenge and inspire her, HNMCS could be the perfect school!
HNMCS boasts a beautiful 7 acre campus. The school is located at 2241 Mississauga Road in Mississauga, easily accessible from the QEW. It was founded by the Basilian Fathers of St. Michael’s College School and the Felician Sister of Mississauga. Their affiliation with St. Michael’s balances the benefits of single gender education with co-ed activities such as field trips and social events.
Small class sizes and teachers dedicated to the success of their students are all part of high academic achievement, and allow for more personal attention. The engaging curriculum is particularly tailored to suit girls’ learning styles, letting them explore their leadership skills and independence and helping them find their own voice. Academically, graduates from all girls schools usually have better public speaking skills and more academic responsibility and confidence—something HNMCS strives for.
The atmosphere at HNMCS is positive and supportive, making girls feel at home and comfortable! The virtues of the Catholic faith are mirrored in students and teachers alike. Teachers are understanding and easy to talk to, and are always encouraging students to be who they want to be. A safe, constructive environment is the key to successful learning, especially for girls. Initiatives such as the house system, which splits girls up into four houses and makes for fun and motivational competition, and the Duke of Edinburgh award—a challenge for young women to set goals for themselves—are also present in the school community, and serve to make students confident and high-achieving young adults.
HNMCS offers a variety of ways for students to explore their gifts. Athletics and outdoor education are an important part of the school experience —and the opportunities at HNMCS are abundant: from tennis, to soccer, Ultimate Frisbee to yoga, and more. Outdoor field trips and activities, such as the annual trip to Camp WATTIKA, are offered to girls year round. Community outreach is also supported throughout the school, with the Terry Fox Run and fund-raising for Haiti only the tip of the iceberg. Each student completes a mandatory 10 hours of community service, often leading to fulfilling experiences. Being involved globally and locally helps students develop compassion and find joy in helping others. Music, as a large part of Christian and artistic education, is brought into the school through various choirs, open to students of all ages.
If a specialized curriculum, academic excellence, positive atmosphere and activity filled year sound like the right fit, drop by HNMCS’ open house! Learn more about this great school through tours and the opportunity to talk to teachers, students, parents and administrators face to face. Physically going to a school and talking to members of the school community is one of the best ways to get to know it. This fall, take the opportunity and you may find that HNMCS can make choosing a private school as easy as one open house.
