Class Afloat Private School Students Welcomed Home at Pearson Airport
Our Kids’ photographer Andrew Stawicki met the students of West Island College International’s Class Afloat program as they got off their plane at Toronto’s Pearson Airport this morning.
On February 18th Class Afloat’s tall ship, SV Concordia, sunk in high seas off the coast of Brazil, southeast of Rio de Janeiro. All students and crew quickly put on their floater suits and made it in to the life rafts. After 18 hours in the survival boats the sailors were rescued by merchant ships. Representatives of the school state that frequent emergency training prepared the students for just such an emergency.
Families and friends were excited to see their students safe and sound on the ground at Pearson.
Our Kids will continue to cover this story in the next few weeks. We hope to have interviews with the students and faculty in next Tuesday’s Our Kids Newsletter. Subscribe to our newsletter or watch this space for more information.
NOTE: Class Afloat has taken down their website to focus on their media releases. If you would like to know more about this unique private school experience, including video of the students in class aboard ship, you can click on their listing on Our Kids Go To School.
