Over the past four months, Our Kids Media has worked toward redesigning and entirely revamping our portal on private schools at ourkids.net. Three writers and editors, two designers and one of the hardest working developers in the business have all been busy adding content, new features and an entirely new look to our website on private education.
The updated website includes the following noteworthy additions:
An advanced school search that allows parents to drill down into regions and school specializations, along with a clickable, searchable map listing private schools from Canada, the United States and internationally.
A community section that includes areas of parents and students. The Student Zone highlights contests and videos and promotes student bloggers from private schools. The parent to parent community allows parents to ask and answer questions about private schools, boarding schools, Montessori, faith-based and other options and issues in private education.Some hot topics include advice on choosing a school, academics and curriculum and other decisions.
A deep research guide, updated for 2009, that provides an overview of types of schools, information on applying and on paying tuition.
Over a hundred new pages offering detailed information and focused listings of schools, where parents can find the exact school they desire, based on region and type of school. Some examples include targeted pages on Ontario Montessori schools, special needs schools in Alberta and schools with ADHD Support .

In addition, the website offers previously added features including this blog, a newsletter, a monthly event calendar, videos, a photo gallery, contests and a wealth of other resources for parents and others in the private school realm.
We hope that the website redesign demonstrates Our Kids Media’s continued devotion to making it as easy and as comfortable as possible for parents to investigate private school options, no matter where they are or what kind of school they are looking for. We’re proud to say that since our launch in 1998, ourkids.net has gone from this to this (from 2004) to the current layout for Canada’s premier resource on private school options.
In the past two years alone, OurKids.net has made considerable progress in moving forward to meet the needs of parents. We have added significant content and features to our website, and Canadian parents have responded by making our site their undisputed number one resource online for private school information, with over 50,000 unique visitors and 200,000 page views per month. We hope parents will find our new design helpful and will share it with other parents interested in learning all about private school.
