My Paralympic View 1: Alessia

Monday, March 8

My mom picked me up from school and we headed into the city to pick up our accreditations for the Paralympic Games.  I am so excited.  This will be my first accreditation.  My parents have had them for many of the Games and now I finally get to have one too!  The accreditation process was quite simple.  I had to have my picture taken – it’s not very good because the person taking my picture told me I couldn’t smile.  I don’t really understand why – isn’t this suppose to be something fun?  Anyway, I got my first accreditation and I am so happy to have it!  Now I can attend any event I want to – well assuming my mom wants to take me!

Thursday, March 11

Once again my mom picked me up from school and we headed downtown.  This time to see the Paralympic Torch Relay.  As we were walking to the City Celebration site we saw our first torchbearers.  It was so exciting!

We also stopped to take a picture in front of the official count down clock!  One day and 26 minutes to go!

When we arrived at the celebration site it was packed.  I was worried that we wouldn’t find a place to watch.  Fortunately we found a very small space right in the middle of the crowd.  It ended up being a perfect location as the torchbearer walked right in front of us.  Do you recognize him?  He is Roberto Luongo – the famous Canadian and Canuck goalie!

After he lit the cauldron he was interviewed by Andrea Holmes.  She visited our school last year.  She is a Paralympian.

After some amazing shows – including a wheelchair dance troop, they lit another torch and off she went.
