My Paralympic View 4: Alessia

Saturday, March 13

Well I woke up late so we missed the Canada – Italy sledge hockey.  We watched it on TV – Canada won 4-0.

We made it out to Thunderbird Arena for the Sweden – Norway hockey game.  I was really excited to use my accreditation.  Everyone was double checking it to make sure it was really me!

The hockey game was really exciting.  It is amazing how they can play hockey sitting in sledges.  Their arms must be so powerful!

In the last seconds, Norway tied the score to send the game into overtime.  The periods in sledge hockey are only 15 minutes.  In overtime it is 10 minutes.  After the overtime they were still tied so it went to a shoot out.  The first 2 rounds were even.  In the third round, the Swedes missed and Norway scored.  They won the game!

I really liked how at the end of the game they saluted each other and the refs and the crowd.  It was a true sign of good sportsmanship!

We stayed for the USA – Korea game.  It was also a great game.  The USA won 5 – 0.  The neat thing was we were the first in the stadium.
