Do you want to know how to pick the best summer camp for your kids? Watch how the staff treat each other.
You can tell a lot about the atmosphere and general attitude of a children’s summer camp by taking a tour and observing a few things.
- Are you greeted warmly and immediately?
- Do the staff (not the ones directly touring you) take the time to introduce themselves?
- Is the tour focussed on your child? Is it fun for them?
- Do you notice the director or staff member being conscientious of the condition of the camp site as you tour? Have they become blind to things that a new visitor notices? …. and finally:
- Does the staff treat each other with respect and courtesy?
It is these little things that will actually make a difference in how your child is looked after when they are at camp – not how many sports fields the camp has or whether the kayaks are new.
