Hi, my name is Kate and I want to share my experience with kids my age that may be going to Maplebrook School next year. There were a lot of things I wish I knew before coming that I want to share with you so you feel ready to join our school. Here are a few questions I know I had before coming to Maplebrook and now that I have been here a few years I can easily answer these questions and share them with you! If there is a question you have that I did not cover please just ask! I’d love to tell you more about my school!

What is your favourite thing about living in the dorms?

Getting to be with all my friends and living with a roommate. Sometimes we fight about things that are not important to but at the end of the day we are all like sisters to each other and are helpful, loving and caring to each other. That’s what life is like living in the girls dorm at Maplebrook. The girls dorm we all have are ups and downs with each other but we all help each other with any daily problems that happen during the day at school or in the dorm.

What’s your favourite activity in the dorm?

Watching TV with the other girls and being on the Internet or my cell phone (cell phones for the contract students). We keep so busy during the day with classes, sports and activities that it’s nice to just hang out and relax in the dorms with each other. If I feel like being with all my friends then we will watch a movie together in the living room. If I feel like I need some quiet time I just hang out in my room and listen to music.

What do new students need to know about living in the dorms?

It can be hard being homesick but a good way to deal with it is to hang out with your friends and stay busy with activities and classes.

What should I bring to Maplebrook?

Posters, familiar things from home like pictures and personal items. Most of the girls decorate their room with things that make them feel at home and comfortable. The girls try and make the dorm feel like a family home. You should also bring your laptop, iPod, bathroom items and snacks which can be left in the dorm kitchen. Bring anything else you can think that you would need in your bedroom. Of course you need to bring your own clothes and bed sheets.

Are there important rules to know?

No screaming or cursing! Keeping your voices low and be respectful to one another is also really important in the dorms. Once you get here you’ll learn all about R.I.S.E. and how following the rules will help you earn more privileges like carrying around your cell phone.

What would you like to tell new students?

R.I.S.E. is important, earning more points for doing things you’re suppose to like room care and homework will help you earn points and go higher in the levels. Going higher will allow you more privileges such as fresh town trips, off campus trips like NYC, Six Flags, Fun Central and Barnes and Noble.
