Helping families choose private schools and summer camps
Why bother? I won’t need it in “real life”. This is the question heard over and over again in bedrooms, school hallways and principals waiting rooms for as long as there has been chalk.
No one can tell you what will help you subject-wise in the future but the one thing I can guarantee you is that if you can master self-discipline in learning new things and being able to talk intelligently on the subject afterwards, you will do well in whatever you do.
It’s 8:00 am. Your teen’s alarm has gone off at least 5 times and your knocks on the door have been responded to by grunts that could only be understood by prehistoric man. Its not the first time, nor the 21st time, truth is, you’ve lost count of how many times you have had the losing power struggle over getting them up and getting them to school. But when Quebec’s public and private secondary schools were graded at the end of October, many schools weren’t happy with the process. They’ve even gone so far as to completely ignore the validity of the results. The Federation des commissions scolaires du Quebec (Quebec’s federation of school boards) stated that it will not recognize the Fraser Institute’s report and will not comment on any of the findings, saying they are misleading, subjective, and based on incomplete observations, including intervening factors outside the classroom like socioeconomic status, and parental education levels.
From the first day of school it’s the day that everyone looks forward to. Kids, Teachers alike. Maybe the parents, not so much, but I know the kids did for sure. They took everyday in.
