Parents and camps gather for the 2011 Our Kids Summer Camp Expo

At the first ever Our Kids Summer Camp Expo, representatives and staff from over forty-five different summer camps filled the hall with booths equipped with beach balls, wooden cabin-like roofs, as well as frisbees, arts and crafts, and even mini-s’mores! Each camp brought it’s own slice of summer to meet with over 600 curious families, consisting of parents as well as their budding campers, whether they browsed through their options in strollers or in tightly-packed huddles of teenage friends.

Students sing “Wade in the Water/Swing Low, Sweet Chariot" during their annual Black History Month assembly at Richland Academy in Richmond Hill, Ontario.

If Zachary had been alive during the time of slavery, he would secretly take the slaves to Canada by boat or by foot. “Before I started saving slaves, I might have been one myself, so I would know how hard it is,” says the Grade 5 student. February is the shortest month of the year, and it sure felt like it this time around. But while parents are still occupied with the day-today bustle, kids have been patiently awaiting the month of March and what it will bring: plenty of puddles to splash in, green cookies on St. Patrick’s Day, and the Holy Grail – March Break! A whole week off school to frolic, play, and burn off all that energy built up since the Winter Holidays with a fun-filled schedule that their parents haven planned for them weeks in advance. Right? Unfortunately many parents across Canada aren’t usually as diligent at counting down the days as their kids, so March Break can sneak up suddenly. But hopefully we can help. Here are our picks for fun activities for kids and the family during the March Break in Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver.

Through these clubs you can meet people who have the same interests as you and begin to form friendships. Once you have made these friendships you are set to join the school community and have a good integration experience.

Practice at 7 in the morning. Coach wants us there at 6:50. I face a dilemma. That same day I have my unit test for French. I live a hectic life. I am in high school, and am on multiple teams, one in school and another out of school. As a student-athlete, I will face conflicts between athletics and academics throughout the basketball season.
