Located in the heart of midtown Toronto at Mount Pleasant and Davisville, Toronto Prep School is a traditional private, co-educational school for grades 7-12 students surrounded by wonderful neighbourhoods including Laside, Forest Hill, Lawrence Park and Rosedale. With a Goodlife Fitness club in the school, students are provided with a complimentary Goodlife Fitness Membership and can also access a sports field, baseball diamond and tennis courts.
Students interested in performing arts will find plenty to choose from in programs such as acting, film and video, production, fashion design, photography, and graphic design. Clubs like student council, debate, chess, yearbook, robotics and community service ensure that every student has a chance to engage in and explore their passions, and the school’s safe, nurturing environment is considered a “home away from home”.
It Takes A Village to Raise A Child
At the Toronto Prep School, we truly believe that it takes a village to raise a child, which is why our students are supported with the active involvement of a passionate, caring and experienced staff. Through proven teamwork, shared leadership and the effective management of resources, staff provide a safe and orderly learning environment for students. The school prides itself on its dedication to students, families, community, staff, the teaching profession itself by acknowledging that parents, students and teachers are valued partners in creating the foundation for life-long learning. It takes all of these people working together toward a common goal of student success.
“The opportunity to contribute to the development of young men and women is a privilege”
– Steve Tsimikalis, Principal
It is with this community philosophy in mind that the Toronto Prep School welcomes the input of parents. Students will enjoy working with dedicated teachers who respect, encourage, inspire and challenge students to maximize their effort.
Achievement, Character Development and Academics: A Balanced Education
The Toronto Prep School will benefit students who are looking for a community where achievement, character development and academics are equally important aspects of their total educational experience. The school’s ultimate goal is to help students develop a life-long love of learning. The school focuses on a rigorous academic curriculum, a structured, nurturing environment and an appropriate integration of technology to promote literacy and numeracy. The school also values the importance of hard work, personal responsibility, respect, leadership and maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle.
Small Class Sizes
With small class sizes students at the Toronto Prep School will have more opportunities to form relationships with their teachers, which supports greater academic success. Extra-help opportunities before and after school as well as on Saturdays are available to students with specific academic difficulties so that they are able to reach their personal potential for success.
Small classes enable teachers to have a better sense of who your child is, and as such identify strengths and weaknesses more readily. Each student has the opportunity to speak up and participate in class discussions and receive answers to questions immediately.
Develop The Confidence and Responsibility Needed to Succeed
Students at the Toronto Prep School are equipped with the academic tools and life skills needed to enter and succeed not only at the post secondary level, but ultimately in their chosen career path. With the fast pace of technological change and innovation, it is crucial that students gain mastery over these tools. Students at the Toronto Prep School develop into confident, responsible individuals who have the values and skills necessary to become effective communicators, informed and productive thinkers, self-directed learners, collaborative workers and skilled information processors and problem solvers.
At the Toronto Prep School, students learn to:
- Read for meaning and write for purpose
- Locate and evaluate information
- Manipulate numbers and interpret date
- Appreciate arts and culture
- Value a healthy and well-balanced lifestyle which includes physical activity and the importance of family, friendship and community
Graduates of the Toronto Prep School attend many universities inside and outside of Ontario, including The New School for Design in New York. Most students earn early acceptance to the universities of their choice.
