Upper Canada College Grad is Liberal Leader

The alumni ranks of Upper Canada College are a veritable Who’s Who of Canadian leaders, so it’s no surprise that newly minted Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff is a UCC graduate. After Bob Rae dropped out of the leadership contest, Upper Canada College proudly congratulated their alumnus MP.

And even though he graduated back in 1965, Ignatieff remembers his school well.
I once heard a saying that I’ll never forget, “no teacher ever dies until the last student they ever taught dies”. Although he didn’t use quite the same sentiment, Ignatieff remembers several standout teachers from his days at UCC, such as Terence Bredin, his Latin teacher, who taught Ignatieff to love languages.

And while UCC can go on and on about how proud they are of their alumnus, nothing could make the alma mater more proud than hearing Ignatieff declare, “I’ve been a university professor all my life, and the only teachers whose names I remember are from [UCC].”
