  • July 14, 2018Bob Yuile Memorial National Capital Regatta
Britannia Yacht Club, 2777 Cassels Street, Ottawa, Ontario
Join us Saturday, July 14 from 08:00 am - 10:00 pm

The first National Capital Regatta was held on July 26 and 27, 1957, and for more than half a century it has been one of the most popular and successful annual sailing events in Canada.

The aim of this Regatta is to bring together the novice sailor and the well-seasoned racer in an atmosphere of friendly competition and camaraderie. The site at the Britannia Yacht Club situated on Lac Deschênes in the Ottawa River serves as a beautiful backdrop for the regatta.

There have been many years when 15 or more classes competed. These classes have included everything from sailboards to large keelboats, i.e. Lasers (all kinds), Y-Flyers, 14’ Internationals, 5o5s, Bytes, Lightnings, 420s, Cygnus, Albacores, Catamarans in various sizes, Sharks, Kirby 25s, etc.

The record for the maximum number of entries was set in 1975, when 231 boats competed in the N.C.R. The record for the largest fleet of any one class is held by the Lasers, with 106 entries one year. Competitors have come from the east and west coasts of Canada and everywhere in between, also New Zealand, Australia, Great Britain, Germany, Bermuda, Greece, and all over the United States.

During most Regattas there are three separate courses, with the possibility of as many as six classes on each course.

The Britannia Yacht Club’s National Capital Regatta is considered by many to be one of the best multi-class regattas in Canada.

Lisa Shishis, Youth Director

Welcome to the Britannia Yacht Club Junior Lean to Sail Program.  My name is Lisa Shishis and I have been lucky enough to be the Youth Director ay BYC for three years. In this capacity, I oversee the Britannia Junior Club, learn-to-sail programs, high performance race team and optimist race team. I have been actively involved in youth sailing as a parent for over 10 years at the Club, Provincial, National and International levels of sailing.

The fundamental objective of the BYC Junior Club program is to instill a love of sailing in every sailor that joins our program. Ideally, we want our sailors to have fun, create long-lasting friendships, learn about teamwork and become more self-sufficient. Sailing is a life long skill that can be enjoyed any where.    If you or your child are curious about sailing, then please email me at [email protected]
