Director's Message

Henri Audet, Executive Director

After spending many years at the Taylor Statten Camps Ahmek and Wapomeo as a camper, and later on as a summer staff member and full time Program Director and Camp Director, Henri became involved with Camp Kirk in it's infancy stage and continued on to become it's permanent Executive Director and Camp Director.

Four years ago, Henri and the Board of Directors hired Erica Coutts as full time Camp Director.  Erica spent 9 summers as a camp staff member prior to making it a full time career.  Together, Erica and Henri make a wonderful team as they manage all aspects of  Camp Kirk year'round.

Stories & Testimonials

What Mason has learned...

Mason has been a camper at camp kirk for the past 3 years. He started at the age of 10. I have struggled with behavioural challenges for years with Mason, and since attending camp those challenges have lessoned each year.
Mason's time at camp has given him the necessary tools he needed to find the confidence and compassion for life. Each year at camp Mason has continued to build from the last year. His self-esteem has increased almost 100% and he has learned to accept himself. One of the most important things camp has taught Mason is that everyone is different and unique in their own way and it is ok to be different.
I am grateful to Camp Kirk for helping my son see his self worth and for helping him with the necessary tools and techniques to be successful in life

-Terry Lynn (Mason’s mom)

Cole's story...

Coles first year at camp was scary for me. He was 11 years old and I was worried that he wouldn't fit in and that he would be too afraid to stay. Cole has some differences that we celebrate, and some differences that are really a challenge for him especially around making friends. He wants friends. He wants to belong. He wants to be accepted. It always seems to go wrong, because he needs support and is constantly learning how. Cole has Aspergers syndrome and ADHD. He's a pretty lonely guy. During his first year he was homesick sometimes but received loads of support and encouragement and he made it through. It was important for him to feel that independence. When he arrived home he cried that he wanted us to drive him back (true story). He made friends, he belonged and he was accepted. He said they made him feel special and liked. He returned this year for his second time at camp and we felt completely at ease. He ran in and barely said goodbye to us. There was his independence again! He went on the camp out this time and tried everything. Cole had lots of tears when he came home again. It was hard to say goodbye to Camp Kirk. He'll be there next year, and if he has it his way it will be for two sessions.

"All About Rachel..."

Deciding to send our nine year old daughter to Camp Kirk was a tricky choice for us. We have tried Rachel in other activities with kids, and it never worked out. So to send her away for TEN days was a huge decision, especially three hours away from us! Luckily, our cousin was the camp nurse so we knew someone would be there that Rachel knew and trusted. By the end of camp, we literally had a new child. Rachel had gained independence, confidence and FRIENDS. Camp Kirk gets kids like Rachel. What Camp Kirk offers to kids is irreplaceable to parents. You can't put a price on the skills you see your child learning, after struggling for years with social interactions. Thank you Camp Kirk for all you do for kids, and all you do for us parents as well! My heart is joyous when I see my daughter willingly go to school now. See you next year !

-Katie (Rachel’s mom)
