Winter Owl Prowl

Many thanks to Monique and Natureways for organizing the Owl Prowl event in Whitevale on Jan 26. The talk from the Peregrine Foundation was very interesting, and it was a perfect night for a moonlit walk in the woods!

Final Week of Camp Blog 2012

We have arrived at our final week of camp! It's been so exciting and what adventures we have had. We've seen so many creatures this summer including baby snapping turtles, crayfish, snakes, sugar gliders, goats, chicks, ducklings, rabbits, and birds and insects of all shapes and sizes!

Our fabulous guests have included Lloyd Thomas from the Whitevale School of the Arts, Kim Wheatley from Turtle Island Conservation, Peter Graf from Pangea Rhythm, Karen from TRCA's Watershed On Wheels program, and Nikki from Komodo Gardens.

This week as we focus on our Furry and Feathered theme, we will be exploring the trails from the perspective of the animals instead of humans. What makes the forest, streams, sky, and human spaces a good place for creatures to live and thrive in? How can humans help to keep those habitats healthy? What can we do for those creatures who are species at risk?

We have also released the September date for our new Nature Nut Fall Program. Tentative dates are posted for October through December. They will be confirmed within two weeks.

See you on the trail!

Guestbook Blog August 9, 2011

Wow! It has been very busy here at Natureways.
Thank you to all of you who posted comments in our Guestbook.
These last few sessions have included some really exciting moments. Predator and Prey is of course at the top of everyone's list of the 'must do' at our camp. We have had some pretty exciting moments at Hayden Shores in Whitby as we searched for fossils. Great shelter building too on our own Seaton Hiking Trail. We've seen snakes, loads of toads, frogs- green frogs and leopard frogs too, turtles, and thousands of dragon flies. We've even caught a blue crayfish!!!!

We also had a great time at Norm's Farm (Wild Things --Got some dirty boots there!!! Life on the farm of course!) Our trip to Heber Down was really special too. Can you believe how fast our Earth can regenerate a forest? And our trips to Lynde Shores have really offered us a chance to get up close with our feathered friends. I love watching your faces when they land in your hands!

See you on the trail!!!

Natureways Testimonial

"One of my favourite parts was when I caught a huge crayfish in the creek and also kissed the frog. Overall I made many new friends and I can't wait until I can go again. "
