The Our Kids review of The Second City Training Centre

    our take

Part of the thrill of attending The Second City Training Centre is simply taking part in a piece of history. Founded in Chicago in 1959, the theatre quickly became one of the most influential comedy centres in the world, famed as much for its alumni as for the quality of the workshops. The Toronto chapter, among many other things, gave a jumpstart to SCTV and all the characters, actors, and comedy history associated with it. Participants join that history which, for many, is itself worth the price of admission. Aside from all of that, it’s a great way for kids to step a bit out of their comfort zones, experiencing something new or building upon existing skills, along with like-minded peers, learning from professionals who are operating at the top of their craft.

    Great for Young Kids!

My daughter's favorite part of camps was acting and playing lots of fun games. She loved "being brave" and "thinking fast" throughout camp!

    Stories

    • Life changing program
I've got lots of good words to say about the Second City Training Centre! I had to cajole our son into attending his first lesson there but after that he wouldn't miss a lesson under any circumstances. Two years later, and, at the risk of sounding too "dramatic," Second City has literally changed his life. In addition to the new acting skills and many friends he has made, he has developed a keen sense of himself, and an enduring self-confidence. His teacher has been exceptional. She is highly creative, thoroughly engaged with her students , and very skilled at creating a fun, safe environment for her students to develop their skills. She is very respected by her students, who know only too well when they've got a good thing going.
    • Self-confidence, maturity, and self-discovery
The Second City Training Camp, Well, you did it! You lived up to your published promises about The Second City Camp. In the one-week camp my son just completed, I saw an astouding change in him, day-by-day. If I had to use three words, they would be self-confidence, maturity, and self-discovery. His biggest finding was that you don't try to please strangers ... be yourself. I hope he holds on to that lesson. When asked, he also said that the instructors made everything very positive toward everyone, and (as I surely had expected) kept the humour going throughout the day. I was the lady with the loudest laugh during the performances. But I will mention that when you see a performance that involves your own child, it's different from going to a regular performance. Thank you for teaching me that lesson. He loved his week in camp. If he had an otherwise uneventful summer, he'd be doing more. But of this I'm pretty sure. See you next year. Thank you so much, Jo-Ann Mom of Jackson, SC Camper
    • 10 year old Testimonial
My 10 year old son enjoys the course and his teacher, Rob, immensely. Rather than having to drag him downtown, he’s ready to go to The Training Centre with enthusiasm!
