Leah was nervous, she peeked out into the crowd to see if her grandmother had arrived yet to watch her. She was not there yet.
"3 minutes 'till showtime!" called out Leah's coach Jeremy.
Leah, age 12, was finishing her first week of trampoline camp. This week she had been placed in a group of 11-13 year old girls, most of whom were beginners like herself. Today was their chance to show what they had learned!
"Welcome to our Visitor's Day Show!" Leah heard the Camp Supervisor announce to the audience. She hoped her grandmother had made it. The music started - and all the athletes raced out onto the floor! Where was Gram? Leah was more focussed on her gran than on the circus routine she was performing!
The campers looked great. Some were juggling scarves, some using diablos (also known as Chinese Yo-Yo's) in this grand opening to the show, choreographed to an exciting music arrangement. The campers gracefully moved around the gym floor and just as Leah formed the base of a pyramid did she spot Gram sitting at the end of the 2nd row. Leah beamed a smile out to her Gram as a younger camper climbed up on Leah's back to juggle as part of the finale to this routine!
Then the groups scattered across the gym, some showed off their routines in synchronization with a partner on 2 trampolines, others were running and dismounting from the Double-Mini Trampoline. There was action all over the gym, Leah's Gram hardly knew where to watch next.
As the show came to a conclusion with the athletes coming together on the floor, each camper was presented with a certificate and ribbon from their coach. Leah knew she was going to get a Level 1 Trampoline Ribbon for passing all the moves in the first level. She felt proud as she shook her coaches hand and took the certificate.
When it was all over, and time to go home, her Gram asked her if she would like to come back for a week of trampoline camp next year. "No" Leah answered, " I want to come back for the whole summer next year!"
