TURIN, ITALY - The Gymnastics Mississauga duo of 9-year-old Karyzza Gerelle Guillermo of Brampton and Mikaela Pingol, 14 of Mississauga won the youth women’s pairs division at the 3rd Turin (Italy) Acro Cup July 3 to 5 in Italy.
In their event there were a total of 16 pairs representing other nations including Italy, Great Britain, Russia, Switzerland, Estonia, Hungary, Austria, Belgium and South Africa. There was also another Canadian pair from Gymnastics Mississauga, Mila De Salle, 9 of Brampton and Nikki Krigos, 13 from Mississauga.
The winning Canadian pair finished with a total of 26.550 points. The other Canadian team did not advance out of the qualifying round.
This is the first season together for Guillermo and Pingol. Pingol has competed twice previously at world championships in the trio event. In 2013, she partnered with sister Xhosa and Syanene Baker to win solver at the Volkov Cup in Russia. Their coaches who accompanied the two duos are Ren Torosyants and Irena Nechaevski
