Hidden Bay Staff Assist in Lifesaving Rescue

On September 17th, Stitch, Globe and WIP were in attendance at the Carling Township Volunteer Appreciation event to accept an award for a lifesaving rescue that Hidden Bay staff participated in over the summer.

The staff at HBLC had the opportunity to put our training to the test.  During our camp activities in early August, our neighbors across the lake let us know that they had an emergency.  Camp staff learned that a man in his 80s was unconscious on the family's dock.  Immediately camp staff contacted 911, and WIP paddled over to begin giving CPR.  Globe went to assist, while other staff, Matches, Almond and Skip gathered supplies, including our AED and went over to support the family.

After about 20 minutes, and several shocks from the camp AED, the gentleman was breathing on his own and EMS had arrived on scene.  The gentleman was transported to the hospital in Parry Sound and was taken by air ambulance to his home hospital in the GTA while remaining in a coma.  About two days later he did wake up and ask to go home, and has since received a quintuple bypass procedure and is recovering well.

All of us at Hidden Bay are incredibly grateful that we were able to provide the lifesaving help that this man needed and that he is currently in recovery.

We would like to thank Globe, WIP, Almond, Skip and Matches for springing into action to save a life, and Zelda, Tad & Volt for ensuring that our campers stayed safe while the rescue happened.
