Kids & Parents Join in Fun Day to Find Cure for Type 1 Diabetes

It was all about raising awareness and finding the cure for Type 1 Diabetes.

On Saturday, April 8, kids n bricks, a GTA-based after-school educational organization, hosted a LEGO Fun Day fundraiser event in Mississauga.

Besides providing full-day activities for children as well as their parents, the purpose of the event was to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation to help find the cure for Type 1 Diabetes.

“We believe in action,” said Cathy Pettigrew, Director and Chief Enthusiast at kids n bricks. “When my daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in January, we made a commitment to make Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation one of our charities. It gave her a purpose.”

Seven years ago, Pettigrew’s son was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Since then, her organization has been involved with various activities to give back to the community.

The recent LEGO Fun Day raised $90 to help find the cure for Type 1 Diabetes.

Pettigrew said every dollar counts, but the main purpose of the event was to get the word out and get together in the fight against the disease.

kids n bricks has locations both in Mississauga and Oakville.
