In the fall of 2012, Adam Buchnea and Barry Hytman, two phys. ed. teachers discussed the idea of starting a camp.  Camp had played a important role in each of their own development and they recounted how many of the best summers of their youth were spent being a camper or working at a camp.  Why not start their own camp?  That is the idea that was born that night and the hard work started to make that mere idea into a reality.  On January 15, 2013 Rouge Camp became a corporation and during the March Break of 2013 the first 2 day March Break Camp was run.  It was a success with 40 campers coming out each day.  During the summer of 2013, Rouge Camps (Rouge Valley Sports Camp in particular) welcomed 80 campers over two weeks.  During the summer of 2014 Rouge Valley Sports Camp welcomed 200 campers over a four week period.  The summer of 2015, 300 campers over a 5 week period.  The idea was growing as countless Rouge Valley Sports Camp counsellors took on the dream of seeing 'young people reach their full potential'.  There have been countless efforts by staff members to enhance the camp product by contributing their energy, creativity and ideas.  It is this team approach and committment to providing campers with the best weeks of their year has earned Rouge Camps the trust of 100's of parents accross York Region.

In 2016, Rouge Camps added a new site that services Richmond Hill & Vaughan, called Rouge Hill Sports Camp.  Rouge Hill Sports Camp operates out of Nellie McClung PS and has already left a positive impact on the campers that have gone through the first session this past summer.  Now the organic trust that many of Rouge Camps first customers have given them is recognzied by the Ontario Camp Association.  The seal of approval is certainly welcomed by Rouge Camps and the parents that already trust their camps.  One parent, John, said "it is nice to know that the largest governing body for camps in the province thinks that the place I send my kid is safe as well.  That gives me even more peace of mind than I had before going into the 2017 camp season"

With the great start Rouge Camps is off to, it will be fun to see what enhancements they will make to their programs in 2017.  Find out more at www.rougecamps.com.
