Prior to her time in BC, Carolyn was the Director of Admissions and a teacher at West Island College in Calgary, and a teacher in the Edmonton Public School Board. Born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba with an older brother and my two parents. We moved when I was in High School to Oakville, Ontario where after graduation I attended Western University taking an honours English and Theatre Arts Degree. I then attended Queen’s University where I took my Bachelor’s of Education Degree in a specialized program entitled “The Artist in the Community.” Upon graduation, I started work at Trafalgar Castle School, an all girls independent school in Whitby, ON. This position started my 23 year career in education. From teaching English and theatre, to performing arts coordinator, to Director positions in academics and student life, I have been involved in all aspects of schools. I have worked in middle and high schools, as well as JK-12 schools, in all girls, all boys, and co-ed. I have taught IB and AP, as well as provincial curriculum in Ontario, Alberta, and BC. I am a passionate theatre director and choreographer, and love all things English literature. I support a whole child learning experience from fair and transparent assessment and reporting practises, to strong curriculum, creative problem solving, student centred and inquiry based personalized learning, and involvement in all aspects of student life. I truly believe that resilience, resourcefulness, capacity and creative problem solving come from experiencing miscalculations, setbacks, mistakes, and failures. My husband, Mark Grant, and I have three kids: Natasha who is almost 9 - she will join me at HNMCS in grade 5 for the 2019-20 school year, and our twins Logan and Avarey are 6, and starting grade 1 this fall. They all attend Catholic School, Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Point Grey, Vancouver, BC. Outside of education and my family, I enjoy travel, reading, jogging, walking/hiking and yoga.
