If you want your kids to be strong in math or english, enroll them in a bilingual preschool or daycare. Studies show that children that learn a second language outperform students on standardized tests. There are many daycares, preschools and early learning centres that offer bilingual school programs in Mandarin, German, French or Spanish such as The Dalton School in Toronto or The French International School Cousteau in North Vancouver. We've highlighted some that make our top bilingual preschools list below.
Many studies show that second language learning not only improves a child's linguistic abilities, but their cognitive and creative abilities as well. "Children that learn a second language beginning in early childhood demonstrate certain advantages over children who do not" states Therese Sullivan Caccavale, President of the National Network for Early Language Learning.
In addition, learning a second language at an early age, something a bilingual preschool or daycare can offer, will improve problem solving and critical thinking skills, creativity and flexibility of the mind, with direct correlations to improved scores in standardized tests for verbal and math levels.

It's never too late to learn a new language, but earlier is better. It's easier to pick up French, Mandarin or German if you start in preschool. However, "longer sequences of foreign language instruction seem to lead to better academic achievement overall" states Caccavale. All research in the field of language studies points to the benefits of starting a second language as early as three years of age. Give your kids a boost at educational success and consider enrolling your child in a bilingual preschool or early education language program.
