Camp Life

Courting success
By:Stephanie Splitter, Director, Elite Camps
Thanks for sending me to basketball camp.

Following years of studying at university, a man comes home after his first day in his first "real-world" corporate job. He calls his parents to tell them about his day at work: "It's going to be hard. I have to prove myself to everyone--I have to be the leader to a new team of staff and deal with a boss who seems to be tough on everyone."

The man thinks back to his years of schooling, trying to recall experiences that might help him cope with the overwhelming emotions. Nothing comes to mind. Then he catches a glimpse of a photo sitting on his shelf. The picture is from years ago at basketball camp. It all comes back to him.

Basketball is life. He remembers how to lead his team to victory. He knows how to encourage a teammate having a bad day. He knows it will take time to earn his minutes on the court. He remembers that it takes time, effort and positive thinking to accomplish his goals.

He says to his parents, "But it's going to be okay. And thanks for sending me to basketball camp."
