Military Schools

Find a list of schools

At one time Canada had more military schools and colleges than it does today, including the Royal Military College of Canada (RMC) in Kingston, Royal Roads Military College (RRMC) in Victoria, BC, and the Collège Militaire Royal de Saint-Jean (CMR) in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Québec. These were all university-level academies. In the mid-1990s the latter two were closed briefly and have since reopened as civilian educational institutions. The Royal Military College of Canada continues to offer a preparatory year for military students. In 2008, CMR Saint-Jean was reopened as a full military academy; you can learn more here.

What military school provides

Of course, a military education is focussed on edcuation above all else, and specifically in providing an enviroment in which students will thrive. Military schools offer a stuctured, disciplined learning environment, one with clearly defined roles and expectations in order to develop accountability and self determination. For many students, it's an educational opportunity that can make a significant and marked difference in their overall educational experience and their ability to succeed in academics.

The goal of military school is to help students realise their full potential, achieving the best that they can in all areas of their academic lives, be it on a math test, an english essay, or practicing for an upcoming intra-mural competition. As well, the military environment seeks to give students a sense of responsibility for their actions, and allowing them to advance into a fulfilling, productive and happy adulthood.
