One of the most important roles of high school is preparing students for university or post-secondary education. Private high schools have a well-deserved reputation for preparation for university and life beyond. There are many other reasons parents send children to private school and why it is a worthwhile investment:
Small class sizes make the classroom a comfortable setting in which your son or daughter feels comfortable participating. Whether at a boarding or a Christian school, asking a teacher questions is a lot easier in a small environment, and teachers are more likely to form close working relationships with students. These bonds are a great way to enhance your child's learning experience and to have strong references for future jobs and university.
Enrichment Programs and advanced study programs are offered by many private high schools. Advanced Placement (AP) courses will allow your child to gain university credits while still in high school. International Baccalaureate (IB) provides a very well-rounded, university-preparatory high school experience. Many private high schools also have their own enrichment programs beyond AP and IB. In these cases, a student's course load is generally more challenging than it would be with a standard curriculum. Many schools across Canada offer gifted programs, for instance, in Toronto, Ontario, and Vancouver, BC.
Education for Students with Special Needs: Private high schools have the support systems and the expertise necessary to help students with special needs excel. Whether you are looking for a school that is specifically for students with special needs or one that accommodates them, you will have numerous private school options. For instance, there are learning disability, autism, ADHD, and physical disability schools across Canada. Attention to special needs children is growing around the world; for example we profile schools in Poland (szkoly specjalne potrzeb) that offer special needs education.
Paying private school tuition: While the investment in private high school is ultimately worth it, schools realize that not all families have the means to pay tuition outright. Some ways that they are more easily affordable are as follows:
There are more advantages to private high schools as well. For example, they can attract excellent teachers. These schools often have larger budgets than other types of schools and can therefore better compensate instructors. As well, private schools offer teachers the freedom to teach creatively in an environment that is more conducive to learning.
One last advantage is extracurricular activities, which allow your child to pursue his or her interests outside of the classroom. Involvement in such programs is an important aspect of a good resume. Because private schools usually have vast resources, they have the capacity to support diverse extracurricular activities. Learn more from the schools listed below.
