Robotics camps help your young robotic engineer develop his or her interest, skills and knowledge of related technology. Take time during the summer to learn about robotics in kids' camps across the province and the GTA. Camp programs include problem-solving, programming languages and other related skills, as well as design concepts.

Robotics camps for kids

These are very educational camps where young hobbyists develop learning about this exciting subject and get the chance to assemble robots ranging in complexity from entry level kits to more advanced projects. Robotics Camps are an excellent summer learning option for middle school and high school students who intend to pursue a career in science and engineering.

Camp curriculum at an average robotics camp
Working in small teams, robotics camps students use the design systems to compete in fun real-world challenges like robo-soccer, obstacle courses, capture-the-flag, tag, maze solving, and much more! Many caps use the VEX® Robotics Design System, a user-friendly and powerful tool, used in major regional and national robotics competitions, as well as in many high school and university-level robotics classes.

Each day, camp will bring new challenges, as your team’s robot develops and morphs. Advanced students will have the opportunity to learn about building complex sensors, advanced robot arms, drive trains and programming “smarter” robots. In almost every robotics camp, robots built by students will enter an electrifying competition and demonstration at the end of the camp and may even qualify for broader competition and recognition.

Throughout the two weeks of this summer camp program, the participants will learn to use the Arduino programming language to create their own robots! You will also learn the fundamentals of HTML and CSS to develop the web interface to control their robot and read its sensors. Learn the basics of digital design and fabrication to 3D print your robot parts.

 

Each student will make their own individual project as well as participating in a larger group project. Join forces to create something amazing!

 

Make a remote controlled creature that shows its mood through it’s colour changing eyes. Program a trip-wire in your Minecraft world to set off an alarm bell on your desk. Monitor your hamster’s water level and send you an email when it’s low. Wire up an Internet brain to anything you can think of, the possibilities are endless!

 

The camp price includes all materials required. Each participant and group will have a parts budget to spend on the components they need:

  • Spark Core / Photon Arduino compatible microcontroller
  • Servo motors for precise motion
  • Continuous rotation motors for wheels and other drive mechanisms
  • Wide range of sensors such as light sensors, motion detectors, pressure sensors, trigger switches and more

One week participants will still get to learn the skills and contribute to a group project, they just won’t be able to contribute to the whole 2-week process. The $500 price point is for those who choose to attend for one week only.

Mooredale Day Camp is located in the heart of Rosedale in a historic, turn of the centry home converted into a community centre run by the Rosedale-Moore Park Association.  The RMPA is a not for profit, charitable organization.  Drop off time is 8:15 - 8:45, and pick up time is 3:30 - 4:00.  An after care program is provided for an additional fee ($160/session).

New this year!  If your child likes to build and create, this is the program for them!  Each afternoon from 1 - 3:15pm, campers will work with instructors from AFTERFOUR to build and bring to life their very own creations.

Ryerson’s Department of Architectural Science, Ryerson Athletics, and Ryerson Library’s Digital Media Experience Lab are pleased to present a two-day workshop for high school students to explore digital tools and technologies through a collaborative design studio.

Hosted at the Library’s Digital Media Experience Lab on the third floor of the new Student Learning Centre in downtown Toronto, participants complete two major design projects with the guidance of graduate students and faculty.

The first project familiarizes students with ideation and basic robotics, using accessible 3D software and open-source electronics. The second project ties everything together by incorporating 3D printing, Arduino Development Boards and sensors / actuators to create working robots. Projects are completed in collaboration with other students and the complexity of the projects are matched to the skills of the registrants to ensure all participants can customize their experience.

Students also have time to explore Ryerson University and the surrounding downtown core and leave the camp with working robots they've designed and built, including all electrical and mechanical components.
