Study ecology, zoology and other sciences at summer camp!

Science camps offer many different activities that will engage the young scientist in your family. In many (but not all) cases, science camps can even specialize in a certain branch or sphere of study. Camps we list here or have listed in the past include ecology camps, technology camps, and camps studying zoology, space, physics and numerous other scientific pursuits.

Be sure to fully investigate the listings below to find the one that will help your child most richly discover their world and come to a deeper scientific understanding and appreciation of their world.

Please note that we also offer listings focusing on technology and computer summer camps.

In many cases, science camps offer limited space so you may want to enroll your child as soon as possible.

Listed below are Science Camps or summer camps with at least some science curricula. Look into each listing to find out to what extent science is taught.

CAMP DESCRIPTIONS

SCIENCE SLEUTHS

An awesome week of sleuthing, investigation and discovery awaits you! Send messages to your friends with your very own secret code wheels. Hunt down animal tracks and follow hidden scent trails during a day of nature discoveries. Explore the wonders of gravity, balance and the science behind the illusive sweet spot. Build the strongest helmet for our friend Eggbert in our “safe egg challenge”. Renew your appreciation for the Earth and the role science can play in preserving our favourite planet. Build your own cool Kepler's Cubes and become a Mad Science junior astronomer.

Camp-Day Themes include: Mad Messages, Earth Awareness, The Science of Sport, Nature, Space.

MACHINE MANIACS

Join us for a week full of creations, chemistry and cameras! Work together with your fellow engineers to build the best bridge in our shake, rattle and roll challenge. Turn your daily newspaper into a four foot high Geodesic Dome that you can sit in with your friends. Explore the world of birds and beasts with bird house building and our super bug investigation. Mix, mash and brew concoctions to create cool sidewalk chalk and bath fizzers during a day in the chemistry lab. Discover the wonders of photography as you study cameras, light and colours.

Camp-Day Themes include: Jr. Engineers, Machine Mania, Crazy Chemistry, The Birds & The Beasts, Shutterbugs.

SECRET AGENT LAB

Campers will use forensic science to track down an elusive ice cream thief. A visit to Cell City will reveal the inner workings of DNA while a trip down the Organ Trail will provide a Body Portrait! Lemon Shockers, Brain Goo and Electroplating will thrill all junior chemists.  We will discover how to get a rainbow in a test tube and build a Potato Power Plant during a day of radical chemical reactions.

Camp-Day Themes include: At the Scene of the Crime, Organ Trail, Radical Reactions, Chemical Counting, Cell City.

FLIGHT ACADEMY

The week will fly by as we travel through time looking at the earliest flying machines right up to modern day rocket launches. We’ll cover it all. Become a Junior Aviator and discover the principals of flight and aerodynamics. Zip up your space suit for a planetary tour while we investigate the wonders of our very own Milky Way.  Join your fellow astronauts as we send an awesome Mad Science rocket to the moon…well at least into the sky! As Mad Science Technicians, you will build sundials, Bead Dippers, parachutes and an incredible wind tunnel simulator. It will be a blast!

You will experience every aspect of rocket launching as you join a different crew each day. Prepare for launch, send your rockets into the sky and track their altitudes as we launch 10 different rockets each week! You are certain to have a blast exploring, building and launching many varieties of rockets.

Camp-Day Themes include: Rocket Scientists, Rocket Flight, Mission Control, Rocket Propulsion & Recovery, Go For Launch

CHECKMATE CHESS CAMP

Chess the Mad Science way is a blast. Everyday children will learn the chess rules, strategies and tactics. Game pieces have been given extraordinary personalities and are brought to life. Play with our giant chess set - the biggest you've ever seen! Campers receive their own magnetic chess set. As an extra bonus, part of each day will be spent doing super-cool science where children will make a daily take-home activity such as a Rocket, Stunt Plane, Space Shuttle, Racer Car, Silly Putty, Superball and more.

EUREKA!

Welcome to the world of inventions! Children will be challenged to overcome a series of daily tasks by using their brains, brawn, tips from famous inventors, cool equipment and simple machines. They’ll create catapults and forts, design their own light sabers, and assemble a set of circuits using batteries and light bulbs.  While Thomas Edison said invention is 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration, this camp is 100% FUN!  Each day is unique but they are all designed to be fun, exciting and hands-on.

Camp-Day Themes include: Shipwrecked, Whiz Kids, Rock-Paper-Scissors, Think Fast, Science Fiction

INTRODUCTION TO PROGRAMMING (RG-100)

Students will learn about the amazing features of Scratch graphical programming language available on the Raspberry Pi  that  helps young people to think creatively, reason systematically, and work collaboratively.  Scratch was developed at MIT to help young programmers get started.

INTERMEDIATE PROGRAMMING (RG-200)

Students will learn Python with Raspberry Pi; Python is  a high-level programming language that allows programmers concepts in fewer lines of code. Students will create games using Pygame and they will interact with MineCraft to learn how to build 2D and 3D animations.

advanced programming & intro to electronics (RG-300)

PRE-REQUISITE: RG-200

Students will expand their knowledge of Python with Raspberry Pi working with GPIO interface to control electronic modules. Moreover, they  will learn basic concepts of Electronics and Electricity through experimentation and hands-on activities.

intro to robotics (RG-400)

prerequisite: RG-300

Students love this course! A hands on approach to learning from building the chassis, installing the motors, connecting interfaces, testing camera programs and integrating to have a semi-autonomous robot.

The robot is controlled remotely from a separate computer and has a camera that transmits real video

computer vision and robotics Part I & II

(RG-500) prerequisite: RG-400

Have you ever wonder how face recognition software work? How does Kinect detect movement in real time? How do driver-less cars work? How is the car plates are detected in the 407? How does augmented reality work? Well that's exactly what students will learn in RG-500.

In Part I students will learn the basics of computer vision using a very powerful library Python OpenCV. Students will learn how to manipulate images, the theory behind image processing, pattern detection and real time animation with several fun examples.

In Part II students will experiment with different type of sensors such as distance and IR sensors. Students will learn the principle of radar and sonar systems by modifying the robot built in RG-400. Moreover students will integrate the programs learned in Part I and apply it in robotics environment.
