In 1987, the Canadian Educational Standards Institute (CESI) began reviewing independent schools. As a voluntary membership organization of schools committed to school improvement, CESI provides institutional and program evaluation through the establishment and advancement of comprehensive accreditation standards. CESI encourages the highest educational standards while recognizing the independence, integrity, and uniqueness of its individual member schools. In administering the accreditation process for independent elementary and secondary schools in Canada, Switzerland and Bermuda, the Institute assists schools with the ongoing challenge of school improvement in an era of constant change and innovation.
CESI accreditation program has been recognized by the Canadian Association of Independent Schools (CAIS). Additionally, CESI is a member in good standing of the NAIS Commission on Accreditation and has voluntarily agreed to abide by the Criteria for Effective Independent School Accreditation Practices and to submit to a thorough ten-year evaluation of its accreditation procedures by the Commission. CESI is the largest, national, non-profit accrediting organization in the country and has earned a reputation as among the top education accreditations in the world. In today’s climate of increasing educational choice, a more demanding and discriminating market, and growing concern over students’ preparedness to handle the demands of first year university, a CESI accreditation provides the reassurance that its schools meet or exceed, consistent, internationally recognized standards across all major areas of operations. That is great comfort for families looking for the best schools for their children. The Mission of the Canadian Educational Standards Institute (CESI) is to develop and promote educational excellence and school improvement in independent schools. To this end: • CESI recognizes and celebrates the independence, integrity and unique character of each school and the students whom it serves; and, • CESI establishes and maintains high educational and operational standards; and, • CESI promotes and sustains the attainment of voluntary accreditation by maintaining a rigorous accreditation process.
