Hawthorn school was founded in 1989 as a place where parents and teachers would work together in creating the very best learning environment in which every girl can make her mark, as an individual.
Hawthorn School is the only all-girl independent school in Toronto that provides a catholic education. As such, it offers both an all-girls’ environment, as well as a safe and nurturing experience that parents who turn to the school—whether or not they are members of the faith—are looking for.
The academics are demonstrably strong by it’s 100% rate of University acceptance. Classes averaging between 8 and 15 students, allows the teachers to deliver a truly personalized education. In the early grades, the curriculum focuses on a systematic approach to cultivate phonetic, literacy and mathematics skills. Lower School students develop outstanding literacy and numeracy skills. Hawthorn's Upper School delivers an ambitious curriculum, preparing the leaders of tomorrow for university, the workplace, family life and the world beyond.
Girls are challenged to pursue excellence in the full range of academic and character pursuit. The developing of their personality is a primary focus, including self-expression and communication skills. “Teaching the girls to research, articulate, putting their ideas together and presenting them to others,” says Wood, is a significant component of the program.
The strong academic Curriculum is underscored by a Mentorship program that is unique to Hawthorn: each girl has a mentor who, working close with the parents, guides each student, identifies her own interests, abilities, strengths and challenges. Thus promoting a truly-individualized education, developing both character and intelligence. Our goal is that they become confident women of integrity and faith committed to the betterment of society.
