Our gifted education guide has advice specific to finding gifted schools and programs. For more general advice (on how to evaluate school options), we recommend you check out our guide to choosing a school and our expert advice on choosing a school. You can also read our guides to questions to ask private schools and questions students get asked at school interviews.

Private school expos

Private school expos can be a great way to find the right school for your child. We have annual private school expos in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Ottawa, Calgary, and Halton-Peel. These expos allow you to speak with many private schools, some of which have gifted programs—all in the same place. Find a gifted school near you.

Upcoming open house events

Open houses are another effective way to learn more about a school. For some general advice on open house visits, go here. If you have specific questions about gifted schools and programs, read our main gifted education guide.

The cost of gifted schools in BC generally reflects private school tuition overall. On average, private schools range from $5,000 to over $30,000 per year for day students.

There are several affordable gifted schools in BC for families seeking specialized learning. Many of these schools provide strong support for gifted children by focusing on classroom basics and individualized attention. You don’t need to spend a fortune—what matters most is ensuring your child receives the right academic and emotional support.

That said, more costly private and independent schools often provide a wider variety of in-class resources and extracurricular opportunities. These gifted programs may also be part of larger, well-established institutions. Still, across all schools, the largest expense is typically teacher salaries.

Many gifted schools in BC offer financial aid (also called bursaries, tuition relief, or tuition assistance) as well as scholarships. Financial aid is needs-based, while scholarships are awarded for merit in areas such as academics or athletics. You can explore our full guide to financial aid and scholarships to better understand your options.

In fact, larger and more expensive schools with gifted programs often provide the most aid. Even middle-class families may qualify for support, so it’s always worth asking about available options—regardless of your financial situation.

Below, you’ll find the range of costs at British Columbia private schools that specialize in serving gifted children:

  • There’s no question about it: gifted children have very different needs than most students. With advanced abilities that make them stand out in the classroom, a standard approach often isn’t enough. Without the right support, they may feel unchallenged—leading to boredom, and in some cases, behavioural or social issues.

If you’re raising a gifted child, you’ll likely face several key questions:

Beyond traditional gifted programs, some families explore alternatives. Younger children may thrive in Montessori schools, while older students might choose Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate courses. Other possibilities include language immersion or even special needs schools designed with advanced learners in mind.

For an overview of all these gifted programs and learning paths, visit our guide to gifted education. Then return here to explore specific gifted schools in BC that may be a fit for your family.

Read our advice guide on choosing the right school for a gifted child or for kids with other traits. To get customized school-choice advice based on your child’s unique strengths, create a child profile through your account.

    Private school policies

Private schools are not legally required to provide support for gifted children, and many don’t. However, some private institutions in BC offer highly tailored programs and resources. Ultimately, it’s up to parents to make sure a school is the right fit. The list of gifted schools in BC on this page is a strong starting point for your search.
