Not everyone has the opportunity to discover what they're passionate about. Fewer get to turn that passion into a career. For Lindsey Deluce, the journey to become the morning news anchor at CP24 News started at Branksome Hall, a girls' school in Toronto. "Anything dramatic, theatre, all that stuff was really nurtured there and that really was the foundation for what I'm doing now," she says.
Branksome Hall offered Deluce the chance to spread her wings in many directions—not only in sports and academics, but the arts as well. "I was very involved in public speaking, and clearly, that worked out," she laughs as she motions behind her to the newsroom.
All these little stepping stones and all these little training sessions in my life came together
Deluce joined CP24 as a remote host and anchor in 2009. Her first day was a memorable one. Not only did Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett both die, but it was also the first day of Toronto's month-long garbage strike.
Everything was really exciting, and it was live television...the live stuff for me has been a highlight. I didn't know how I would do, but I really like it," she says.
Deluce attributes this drive to stretch her limits to her teachers, who kindled their students' many interests and encouraged them to find their greatest talents. Everything up until now—all her theatre training at Branksome and in university, all the public speaking—have helped bring her to where she is now, she says. "All these little stepping stones and all these little training sessions in my life came together," says Deluce, who is still striving to push her limits and see how far she can go. "To be able to do what you love to do—which I do, even though I wake up at three in the morning, I still love it—I would say that's a huge highlight," says Deluce.
