We are the champions, again!
Bond wins the Withrow Cup for Cross Country for the third year straight!
On September 30, 2015, Bond Academy’s Grade 1 to 8 students participated in the Cross Country meet held at Withrow Park. Bond’s Cross Country team achieved the top overall standing and won the Withrow Cup again — for the third year in a row!
“We had 88 students participate in this event. We did very well this year. We had a lot of first place finishers, second place and third place. But the most important thing is that we had a great participation. Nobody gave up in the races,” said Royal Carney, Lead Coach and Athletics Director at Bond. “We encourage our students to never give up, which is called ‘The Eye of The Tiger’ in sports. You fight to do your best; even if you lose the game, you still gave everything you have, and then you could be happy with it.”
“I think the kids did great this time. They made a great effort. Everybody came in and was doing their best,” said Barbara Bates. Her son Austin Bates, a Grade 8 student at Bond, earned a gold medal in the Under 14 division. “Austin practices at Bond all the time. They have great coaches who are inspiring everybody there.”
“We, the parents, came out today to support the Bond team. They did an amazing job, and the teachers are amazing, too.” said Marlin Magee, mother of Egan Magee, who is in Grade 7 at Bond Academy.
“The event was great! All the students did great job,” said Johnny Bergeron, the proud father of two girls – Ella and Tiana, who are in Grade 5 and Grade 2, respectively, at Bond. “As for my girls, I just want them to come out, try their best and have fun at the same time.”
In total, our students won four first place medals, three second place medals, one third place medal, one fourth place and two fifth place finishers, in their respective divisions. The coaches are extremely proud of all our competitors. Hard work, determination and leadership skills were demonstrated by all of our team members.
