Happy Earth Day!
Today, GAA "got our green on" to celebrate Earth Day. Students, parents, and teachers were treated to some Earth Day poems written by our very own Highlanders, and some musical stylings by our full school choir. Classes have been working on their community up-cycled art projects which will be on display in the Kindergarten hall from Monday April 25- Friday April 29.
.Throughout the month, students engaged in composting challenges, energy conservation challenges, as well as recycling challenges in order to make a difference in our everyday waste. Winning classes in these areas receieved certificates of recognition for their efforts toward creating a greener school and community. Students shared their exciting upcycle art projects at opening throughout the week in order to shed light on how recycled materials can be used for alternate purposes. Students presented objects that included pencil holders, decorative name art, recycled robots and other fun and eco friendly items! A big thanks to Ms. Hyatt for organizing eco leaders in each classroom and in Green team as well.
On Friday April 15th students on GAA's Green Team, took part in a field trip to Green Venture's EcoHouse in Hamilton. The EcoHouse is designed to teach students how to live a more sustainable lifestyle. The group participated in a variety of activities including, how to weed and plant a garden and how to make recycled paper. Students also learned about the value of composting, the benefits of having rain barrels, powering homes using solar energy, and so much more. The students were so excited and couldn't wait to get their hands dirty.
GAA is getting its green on!
