Upcycle!
In celebration of Earth Day, each class has designed a community upcycle project. Community art projects produce one piece of art that every student has contributed to. It is a collaborative effort, and is super-fun. Materials used to create the projects were made of mostly recycled items. Our projects will be on display from April 25-29th in the kindie hallway. Come check it out!
Composting!
Last week was compost week, the third week in our Earth Month Challenge here at GAA. As a school, we saved 43 pounds of compost from ending up in the garbage.
The class who recycled the most was Mr. Fretz's grade 3 class. They saved 9.18 pounds of compost from ending up in our landfill. Congratulations to the grade 3's and to everyone for making a difference.
Weighing in!
Congratulations to Mrs. Patterson class for collecting the most amount of recyclable items last week! As a school we saved 24 lbs of of waste going to the landfill!
On Friday April 15th students on GAA's Green Team, took part in a field trip to Green Venture's EcoHouse in Hamilton. The EcoHouse is designed to teach students how to live a more sustainable lifestyle. The group participated in a variety of activities including, how to weed and plant a garden and how to make recycled paper. Students also learned about the value of composting, the benefits of having rain barrels, powering homes using solar energy, and so much more. The students were so excited and couldn't wait to get their hands dirty.
