Compassion Experience October 17th
Students in grades 6, 7, 8 visited the Compassion Experience and had a chance to immerse themselves in the lives of a little girl from the Dominican Republic or a little boy from Kenya. Witnessing their poverty, hearing the challenges they experience, and learning of the horrific things they witness, just because of where they are born, bring compassion to the forefront. Many students reflected on the experience by expressing how thankful they are for what they have and some even want to explore how they can help those in developing countries. What a profound experience!
Scientific Poetry!
Cross-curricular learning is an exceptional trend in breaking down walls between traditional topics of
instruction. The grade 7 students had a chance to read and create poems inspired by what they are learning in science. Students were challenged to deeply understand scientific concepts in order to apply them as metaphors, similes (or any literary device) or just convey them in verse. Students enjoyed writing their poems and engaged in very productive conversations about the topics covered in science as well as our poetry unit.
We Day 2016
Student council members and representatives attended We Day 2016 on Wednesday October 19th at the Rogers Centre in downtown Toronto. They engaged in a fun and fulfilling day of activities, conversations, interactive presentations and keynote speakers and performers that encouraged them to make a difference in the lives of others. Students were challenged to create positive change and impact in order to help propel a movement towards more inclusive communities, and a more accepting global environment!
Cross Country 2016
