Goal Smashed

A whopping $34,613 was raised during this year's SpringSmash event - close to 30% over the set goal.

This is the highest amount raised in the event's five-year history, and brings the cumulative total to $90,531.

All funds go to the ‘Power of Play’ campaign in support of the York Region Children’s Aid Society (CAS). The campaign’s mandate is to make a difference in the lives of underprivileged families throughout York Region by affording participation in sport, recreation, arts, music, and other extra-curricular activities.

“The entire SAC community should be very proud of the support they have shown for providing opportunities for children,” says Sean Ludwig. SpringSmash is designed, organized, and executed by his grade 12 McEwen Leadership students as part of their course.

The class runs the multi-week event like a corporation focused on procuring donations, offering athletic activities, and incentive prizes. Last Friday’s wrap-up celebration on campus was a thank-you in the form of games, sports, and food.

"It has been very rewarding for the students to see the tremendous support for the SpringSmash cause,” says Mr. Ludwig. “Throughout their time in the program, the students learn about social responsibility and the importance of giving back to the community in which you operate.”

Mr. Ludwig promises the event will be back again next year with a new group of McEwen Leadership Program students at the helm, all motivated to generate further support and execute another exciting SpringSmash.
