ISAK Students meet Michelle Obama in Tokyo!

A trip to the Japan Ministry Foreign Affairs Building to visit with U.S. First Lady, Michelle Obama, is not a typical school outing. But for a few lucky ISAK students, the chance to meet one of the World’s most influential women became a reality. Escorted by ISAK's history teacher, Mrs. Brenda Hasham, and Assistant Head of School, Ms. Janice Murabayashi, ISAK students, Dilrabo, Lien, Yeshwini and Jaymee had the honor of listening to Michelle Obama speak about a new initiative, Let Girls Learn. The ISAK students were selected to attend the event because of their expressed interest in women’s and girls’ issues both in class and in student-led activities. Let Girls Learn aims to assist the 62 million girls world-wide who currently do not have access to education. Mrs. Obama was joined by U.S. Ambassador to Japan, Caroline Kennedy, as well as Japan’s First Lady, Mrs. Akie Abe.  Japan will be contributing $340 million to the Let Girls Learn program. Mrs. Abe is also very interested in education – she recently toured the ISAK campus to learn more about the ISAK curriculum and the school's innovative leadership program.
