UCC Math Select continues to offer elite training to test-takers

The fourth session of Upper Canada College’s popular public offering -- UCC Math Select, an elite math competition training program for boys and girls in Grades 4 through 9 -- is set to begin January 28.

UCC Math Select brings the thrill of competition to the math arena. Students will train to write and excel at North America’s most popular math contests like the Waterloo Contests and the American Mathematics Contests.

The program is open to eligible boys and girls in grades 4 through 9 at any school, not just Upper Canada College. In order to qualify, candidates must demonstrate an interest and aptitude in math through an online entrance test. You do not need experience writing math contests – we will prepare you with the skills and knowledge necessary to achieve your best possible results. You just need a love of math and the desire to take it to the next level.

COURSE BEGINS Thursday, Jan. 28, 2016 and runs for six weeks
TIME 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.
COST $75 payable by cheque on the first day of class
LOCATION Upper Canada College — Upper School, 200 Lonsdale Rd. (Avenue Rd and St Clair Ave W)

How to Apply

In order to be considered for UCC Math Select, you must submit an online form and complete a sample test. Successful candidates will be contacted shortly after applying.

Byung Chun
Mathematics Teacher, Upper Canada CollegeByung started writing contests in grade 2 when he won the Gauss contest in the Vancouver region, and has never looked back. As a high school competitor, Byung won the Canadian Mathematical Olympiad and earned three medals at the International Mathematical Olympiad.  More recently he’s been the academic organizer for the Canadian National Math Camp and a regular lecturer at Toronto Math Circles.  Byung joined the faculty at Upper Canada College in 2012 and has been working with the students to foster a healthy math atmosphere.

Deirdre Timusk
Chair of the Mathematics Department, Upper Canada CollegeAfter graduating from Queen’s with a degree in theoretical physics, Deirdre began teaching mathematics in Medellin, Colombia and then moved to St. Louis, Missouri. Currently in her 12th year at UCC, Deirdre is passionate about creating a dynamic, challenging and supportive mathematics program.
