Fulford Academy

Fulford Academy was very instrumental in my life and I would like to share with you my experience at Fulford. I was only 12 years old when I came to Fulford from Korea. I had no background in English and could hardly communicate. However, with its well-structured language and academic program, I learned not only to communicate but also to read, write and, most importantly, think in English within a short frame of time. After a year at Fulford, I attended Upper Canada College for 2 years and moved to Trinity Pawling School, in New York State. Upon graduating from high school, I went on to college and currently pursuing my education at Cornell University as a bachelor science in the Industrial and Labor Relations School, as a human resource management major. The strengths of the Fulford education have helped me succeed through all stages of my education following my time in Brockville. Its focus on linguistic, academic and cultural preparation for students allowed me to make a smooth transition into boarding schools and into Cornell. I can confidently say that without my time at Fulford, I would not have been able to adapt to and keep up with academics at these elite schools. Furthermore, Suzan Kendall and Nelson Williams have helped me build and shape my character. Often, students come to the school at an age during which their values and character are shaped. I was positively influenced by Mrs. Kendall, Mr. Williams and many other faculty members in building my character which tremendously contributed to my success later on. With many of the attributes that I had developed at Fulford such as leadership, positivity and perseverance, I was elected the captain of varsity soccer and track and field, the head of international club, the head proctor, and the school president during my senior year in high school. I cannot encapsulate here every benefit I derived, but hopefully this illustrates the value of Fulford's education.
