Searching for a Vancouver independent school

If you are researching independent schools in Vancouver there are a few things you should bear in mind. Be sure that the school is registered with the BC Board of Education, for one thing. You can use the web for some relatively in depth research from your own home.

For example, Our Kids has a list of independent schools offering virtual tours. Search the list for Vancouver independent schools. Then go to the schools and find out what they have to offer.

Tips for your search:

  • Ask: can the school offer references from other parents or other authorities?
  • Meet the principal and some teachers face to face. Ask some appropriately open-ended questions that will allow you to gauge their level of commitment to the children and find out their philosophies.
  • Tour schools. Either through an open house or other arrangement, get a close look at how up-to-date the schools' facilities are. Consider all of their education, sports and technological facilities.
