Game Theory Enrichment Course

Appleby College Summer Programs  []

This course is designed to introduce students to Game Theory, the mathematical model of collaboration, conflict, and competition, through the exploration of classic game theory problems like the Prisoner's Dilemma and the Tragedy of the Commons. Students will explore the application of these concepts to decision-making and strategy by working through different real-life situations and facing each other in competitive and collaborative games, such as Settlers of Catan, Rock, Paper, Scissors, and Chess.

The Appleby College Summer Academy offers a wide range of academic enrichment courses to suit students with different backgrounds and different needs. We offer small class sizes, with no more than 15 students per class, with an average of 10. Lunch will be provided at the school for students who register for full day courses. Courses offered are subject to enrollment and may be cancelled prior to the session commencement due to insufficient enrollment; in this case, students will be offered a full refund. An introduction to John Nash’s Game theory! Students will be introduced to Game Theory, and examine the prisoner dilemma. Students will apply game theory to different games to begin to explore it in practice. These include everything from rock, paper, scissors, to resource based board games like Settlers of Catan. Students will then also begin to apply Game Theory to examples of real life.
